Breast augmentation (enlargement) is one of the commonest cosmetic surgery procedure performed. This operation involves inserting breast implants behind the breast tissue. The procedure enhances the size of the breast making them larger, fuller and firmer. The usual place of incision is along the natural crease below the breast, although it can be made on the areola (the area around the nipple) or under the armpit.

Breast implants are usually made from silicone and filled with either silicone gel or saline and the different implants will give different results.

The operation will be performed under a general anaesthetic on day care basis and there is usually no need to stay overnight in the hospital.
