Face & Neck Lift

As we grow old our skin begins to sag, due to the effects of gravity, repeated facial movements, sundamage etc. The sagging tissues give the tired, heavy and worn out look. The face and neck lift procedure aims to counter these changes and helps to maintain a more youthful appearance. During the surgery the sagging tissues are repositioned, skin and muscles of both face and neck are tightened to define youthful contours and decrease facial wrinkles.

A typical face lift procedure is done by making a skin incision both in front of and behind the ear. The skin is then lifted and underlying muscles are repositioned and tightened. Any excess tissue is removed. The skin is then draped back and held together by fine sutures. A fine scar is the usual outcome, and will be hidden as much as possible.

This procedure will take place under general anaesthesia and one should expect to stay in hospital for two to three nights. The recovery takes a while and three to four weeks downtime is usually expected. Bruising, tenderness and swelling will occur during the first few days but settles down rapidly. Associated pain is managed by prescribed painkillers.

Face and neck lift can either be performed alone or in combination with brow lift, blepharoplasty, liposuction etc. depending upon the patient profile.

Short Scar face lift / MACS Lift (Minimal Access Cranial Suspension)

In comparison with a classical face lift a MACS  provides a quicker recovery and a lower morbidity. It also offers smaller scars. But it is not meant for everybody. It is usually indicated for patients who donot have too much of sagging and excess skin. It is recommended in patients whose facial skin has not been noticeably affected by age, as this would require the more involved full face lift surgery.

Surgery is usually performed through small incisions in the preauricular region and hair line. The skin flap is elevated and the underlying muscle is repositioned and suspended in a vertical direction to give a more youthful appearance.

The procedure has a short recovery time than a classical face lift and patient can return to daily activities earlier.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

Endoscopic brow lift is a state of the art procedure to correct frown lines in the forehead and brow areas. The classical brow lift required a long incision from one ear to the other. With evolution of endoscopic surgery the same fate can now be achieved through tiny incisions hidden in the hair line leading to low morbidity. This procedure is most suited for relatively younger patients who will not require excess skin to be removed.

This procedure can be performed by itself or in combination with other cosmetic procedures such as face lift or blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) for optimal results

Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)

Ageing is seen relatively earlier around eyes. Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is meant to tighten the skin around eyes to give a more youthful appearance. Blepharoplasty can be performed on upper eyelids or lower eyelids or all four lids together. For upper blepharoplasty an incision is made into natural skin crease. Any excess fat and muscle is then removed. The excess skin is trimmed and wound is approximated with fine stitches. An upper blepharoplasty may also improve eyesight if the droopy lids are obstructing vision.

For lower blepharoplasty an incision is made just beneath the eye lashes. Excess fat is either removed or repositioned. The loose tissues are tightened, excess skin trimmed and wound approximated with fine stiches.

Facial Trauma

Facial injury may occur either due to trauma (following a motor vehicle accident), burns or assault. Facial trauma can cause disfigurement which is devastating to an individual physically as well as psychologically. Facial trauma includes burns, lacerations(cuts), abrasions and fractures. The aim of plastic surgery intervention in cases of facial trauma is to correct immediate problem and try to minimise late deformities.

Post-Traumatic Deformities

Post traumatic deformities can be corrected by various plastic surgery techniques. The deformities include scars, impaired function or mismatch of normal tissues.

By various techniques scars can be revised or realigned so that they are less noticeable.  Depressed or raised scars can be brought to the level of surrounding skin.
