Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)
Abdominoplasty is the procedure which helps in removing loose, flabby skin and fat to give a flatter and more youthful tummy. It may be indicated in women following pregnancy when striae, loose fat and skin deforms the shape of abdomen. It may also be indicated in isolation or in combination with body lift in massive weight loss patients or in patients after successful weight loss surgery. Skin excision also benefits the patient by partial removal of stretch marks and existing scars if any.
The procedure is done under general anaesthesia. An incision is made depending on patient’s preference for swim wear or under garments. In women it is generally hidden beneath the bikini line and in men in a natural skin crease in lower abdomen. The excess skin and fat is then excised and underlying muscle is tightened. Some amount of liposuction may also be required to improve results. Post operatively a corset is generally required and strenuous activity is avoided for several weeks after that.
