A  With increase in number of patients seeking procedures to enhance beauty, an artificial distinction has arisen between aesthetic (cosmetic) and reconstructive surgery. Gilles the father of modern day plastic surgery has defined reconstructive surgery as an attempt to restore the individual to normal; and aesthetic surgery attempts to surpass the normal. From a plastic surgeon's point of view it is important though to take care of the problems that disturb his patients. Some may be purely aesthetic, some purely reconstructive and some mixed. It thus becomes imperative for the treating physician to make a sound judgment and take up cases which are amenable to surgical correction.
