What is plastic surgery?
A   Plastic surgery is a specialized branch of surgery concerned with repair of deformities and the correction of functional deficits. The word plastic surgery is derived from the Greek word "plastikos", meaning fit for molding. A sense of form, an understanding of function and the ability to make an aesthetic judgment are critical qualities for the plastic surgeon.

Q What is the difference between plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery?
With increase in number of patients seeking procedures to enhance beauty, an artificial distinction has arisen between aesthetic (cosmetic) and reconstructive surgery. Gilles the father of modern day plastic surgery has defined reconstructive surgery as an attempt to restore the individual to normal; and aesthetic surgery attempts to surpass the normal. From a plastic surgeon's point of view it is important though to take care of the problems that disturb his patients. Some may be purely aesthetic, some purely reconstructive and some mixed. It thus becomes imperative for the treating physician to make a sound judgment and take up cases which are amenable to surgical correction.

Q Is plastic surgery safe?
A All surgical procedures are accompanied by a certain degree of risk, whether the procedures are for reconstructive or cosmetic reasons. The issue is risk benefit ratio. It is important that you fully divulge all medical information so that we are able to make an accurate assessment of the risks involved. We will take every precaution necessary to reduce the possibility of any complications.
